Color. Texture. Movement. To begin a painting, I approach a blank panel with a single color and my energy of the moment, having no plan in mind other than to move with confidence. These first marks set the tone for the piece and create a challenging puzzle. Moving forward is a combination of "seeing" and intuition, exploring color and texture, rhythm and balance. I build layers, some of which may be sanded down, creating new details that will become part of the overall composition. Each mark informs the next. And when it's complete it becomes obvious that it couldn't have ended any other way.
